Good Morning! Good Evening! Here is another wonder of the show that we love, and of the IWRY Fic Marathon – it brings together writers of many different nationalities and languages. Don’t you just love that? This accomplished story from Janas, janasbangel, reflects movingly on the nature of the urges that Angel faces. You know the drill by now – put the kettle on, have a comfy seat and settle down to The Predator . Getting feedback is like getting enough hugs to make the day shiny and bright!Enjoy!Jo
Excellent exploration of Angel's struggle with his duality. Kudos to you for this!Gabrielle
Thank you very much :)Edited at 2013-11-06 03:25 pm (UTC)
I enjoyed the Buffy/Darla parallels - the way both Angel and Angelus are bound by their obsessions, and this is none more apparent than when he's with Darla and Buffy.I also liked the allusions to the dark in everyone - souled, unsouled, demonic and human.A nice little slice of inner-struggle/turmoil. Well done.
Thank you very much :)I'm glad you liked it
The parallels between Darla and Buffy is something I have noticed myself. It appears that Angel/us is drawn to petite blondes. What about Drusilla? She was a project, methinks. Angelus had fun driving her insane and then turning her. Kudos for writing a story in a language that isn't your own. I know that I can't do that. Thanks. Ares
Thank you very much :)I'm glad to have tried it, it was so long since I wanted to write something decent in your language. The credit goes to kairos, without her precious help, I wouldn't have been able to participate to marathon, and this was something I wanted to do for a long time.Hugs, Ares.
I liked the Buffy/Darla parallels, too. I had to tilt my head a little at the two expositional paragraphs on The Predator, lol, because it sounded, to me, like you meant God(s), rather than demon/Devil :-) Like the juxtaposition at the end between Buffy's strength/fearlessness and her cluelessness- or maybe it was a intimation that her cluelessness at times is the source of her strength? Lololol.
Thank you very much :)I'm sorry, but I'm not sure I understand what you mean, I have really a lot difficulties with the English language. The Predator is the inner demon and is inside each of us. That was what I meant. As for Buffy, I wanted to express her strength and her sweetness, not cluelessness xD. But above all, I wanted to highlight her deep connection with Angel. They don't need to use many words to understand each other.Edited at 2013-11-06 03:55 pm (UTC)
No worries :-) You did a great job of highlighting the deep B/A connection :-)
A great exploration of the struggle he faes all the time, Janas, and I very much enjoyed it.Jo
Very nice. I love conflicted Angel, and remembering things that got him to where he is at the point in the story.I particularly liked this bit: What had his life with Darla been, if not a continuous secular daily hell? With her there was only death and destruction! He heard the predator roar inside him. The new life that she, the vampire, had promised to show him, in the end was only about killing, nothing more than that. Blood! Death! Madness. That was what it had been. Madness. It's so true, they're promised so much yet from what we've seen it's rarely delivered. Of course the vampire I'm sure doesn't really mind, but it's easy to see how Angel in the position he's in no could have this train of thought.
Gorgeous story! I loved it!My favorite line is this one:We all have a predator that lives within the depths of our souls. But mine, thought Angel, has a name. Angelus.
I'm finally coming through the marathon from the beginning to read and leave reviews where I can...it was nice to revisit "The Predator". I love Angel's deep introspection, and the way that his love for Buffy is such a help to him at this time. Too many stories focus on his agony at being separated from her; it's good to see their relationship in a positive light for once, even though they're not together at this time.Never stop writing!
